Chalong Temple, located on the road from Phuket Town to Rawai Beach. The temple is built at the beginning on 19th century, most visited Buddhist temple in Phuket. The temple is a great place to visit during your stay in Phuket.
Wat Chalong temple is built on three floors so visitors can go to the top floor terrace to get a nice view on the entire temple grounds. From this temple you can see the nearby Phuket Big Buddha, you can actually see it from almost anywhere in the southern part of Phuket.
The ‘Chedi’ is on of the more recent buildings, sheltering a splinter of bone from Buddha. Walls and ceilings are decorated with beautiful painting illustrating the life of Buddha and its past.
On of the more important statues is Poh Than Jao Wat, further you will find many extraordinary statues of ex-abbots of the temple.
The temple in the centre is were most thai will make offerings and add small pieces of gold coloured paper to the monks statues inside. As in many places in Thailand everybody will take off their shoes before entering, you will know when since there will be many shoes in front of the temple.

Wat Chalong visit will probably be not for a full day, it is in the southern part of Phuket there are many view points nearby like the Big Buddha, or go direction Rawai for some sea food or you can get some great personalised tours by long tail boat from there.
