Thailand had become such a hub of sex tourism and well known for its entertainment nightlife and go-go bars that are popular amongst curious tourists as they are open ‘sexpats’.
Bangkok has three most prominent red-light districts including Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza, and Patpong – all adjacent to one another in the center of Bangkok city. They all have something unique and offer different experiences.
Bangkok red-light districts open daily and the action there usually starts at around 7 pm. These areas are bright lights, loud music, and flaunting girls. There’s no shame in this area. They’re not hiding in the shadows.
The most famous Bangkok red-light district is Soi Cowboy. Soi Cowboy got its name from the original cowboy hat-wearing bar owner who started the trend in the 1970s. Soi Cowboy is a short 400-meter long street, which becomes Bangkok’s brightest street after the sunsets.
The selection of venues at Soi Cowboy is really good as you can find more than 30 bars there. You can wander along the street keeping your ear out for music that takes your fancy of drinks prices that fit your budget. You will never be short of the options to choose from and experience Bangkok’s nightlife at its best. Soi Cowboy is located right outside the Sukhumvit MRT / Asoke BTS station.
Nana Plaza is another popular red-light district in Bangkok. It’s a U-shaped 3 story red-light district, claiming to be “The World’s Largest Adult Playground”. Nana Plaza is known for having the biggest selection of ladyboy bars as well. The name originates from the Nana family which owns much property in the area.
There are around 30 go-go bars spread over all three levels of the Nana Plaza building. You will find dancers, live shows, pole dancers, international restaurants, luxury hotels, clubs, bars, and even short-time hotels on the upper level of the Nana Plaza building. Most of the venues are packed with hookers and ladyboy street hookers.
It is located on Sukhumvit Road Soi 4 across from the Nana Hotel, within walking distance of the BTS Skytrain’s “Nana Station”.
Patpong is the oldest red-light district in Bangkok which has been popular as a sex tourism district since the days of the Vietnam War. It’s 2 parallel side streets, between Silom and Surawongse Roads.
Surrounded by a night market that offers a unique experience compared to other Bangkok red-light districts. More than 20 go-go bars, some of the older style. House dozens of neon-lit strip bars offering ‘naughty’ shows and pole dancing, including Ping pong shows, featured on several upstairs bars.
The bars have no dress code and generally no cover charge, the exception being ping pong shows, shows starting in the venues from around 11 pm daily.
Patpong is located in the Silom district which is mainly a business area, though easily accessible by public transport (Silom MRT / Sala Daeng BTS).
